Abstract

Two new species of the Tethyan gastropod genus Ectinochilus from the Bortonian (Middle Eocene) of south Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand are described: E. trisfragmentum n. sp. and E. antipodarum n. sp. The possible modes of dispersal of this genus are briefly discussed in relation to the known occurrence of species of the genus.
