Abstract

The subfamily Callizygaeninae is revised. The genera Mydrothauma Butler, 1892 stat. rev. and Ancistroceron Semper, 1898 stat. rev. are restored from the synonyms of Callizygaena Felder, 1874 and recharacterised based on genitalia configuration of both sexes. The genus Chrysocaleopsis van Eecke, 1920 is synonymised with Mydrothauma (syn. nov.) rather than with Callizygaena. The genus Pteroceropsis Swinhoe, 1904 is synonymised with Ancistroceron (syn. nov.) rather than with Callizygaena. Callizygaena aurifasciata Hering, 1922 is synonymised with C. auratus auratus (Cramer, 1779) (syn. nov.). The taxon Callizygaena ada splendens Candèze, 1927 is raised to specific rank and transferred from Callizygaena to Mydrothauma, viz. M. splendens (Candèze, 1927) comb. & stat. nov. The following species are also transferred from Callizygaena to Mydrothauma: M. pangana (de Freina & Breithaupt, 2025) comb. nov., M. thomasihlei (de Freina & Breithaupt, 2026) comb. nov. and M. semperi (Druce, 1885) comb. rev. The taxa Mydrothauma ada jucunda Rothschild & Jordan, 1903 (syn. nov.), Lophosoma sarah Snellen, 1910 (syn. nov.) and Callizygaena defasciata Hering, 1928 (syn. nov.) are synonymised with Mydrothauma ada javana Rothschild & Jordan, 1903. Two new species of the genus Ancistroceron, A. hainanum Huang & Horie sp. nov. (Hainan Island, S China) and A. toshitsugui Huang & Horie sp. nov. (Nakhon Ratchasima, NE Thailand) are described. Callizygaena luzonensis (Semper, 1898) is transferred from Callizygaena to Ancistroceron, viz. A. luzonensis (Semper, 1898) comb. nov., resulting in the homonymy with the name Ancistroceron luzonensis Schultze, 1925, hence a new replacement name is proposed for the latter: Ancistroceron schultzei Huang & Horie nom. nov. The following species are also transferred from Callizygaena to Ancistroceron: A. unipuncta (Swinhoe, 1904) comb. nov., A. venusta (Jordan, 1912) comb. nov., A. flaviplaga (Hering, 1925) comb. nov. and A. amabilis (Jordan, 1907) comb. nov. Lectotypes are designated for Ancistroceron glaucon Semper, 1898, Pteroceropsis unipuncta Swinhoe, 1904, Callizygaena venusta Jordan, 1912 and Trypanophora luzonensis Semper, 1898. The genus Procotes Butler, 1876 is transferred from Procridinae to Callizygaeninae, with two new combinations proposed: P. albipuncta (Hampson, 1900) comb. nov. and P. flavipicta (Holloway, 2011) comb. nov., and a new species described from Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia, viz. P. hollowayi Huang, Müller & Horie sp. nov. The genus Lamprochloe Hampson, 1900 is treated as a synonym of Procotes (syn. nov.) rather than of Callizygaena. A checklist of the subfamily Callizygaeninae is provided. Adults and genitalia of all the aforementioned taxa are illustrated.
