Abstract

Two new species of the genus Prusiana Evans, 1937 in the family Hesperiidae are described from the main island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. One is a medium sized skipper from a high mountain in south Sulawesi, viz. Prusiana shiranuhi Suefuji sp. nov., which was recognized based on molecular and morphological evidence. This new species can be easily distinguished from other Prusiana species by its dark brown ground color and the reduced discal spots on the forewing. The other one, Prusiana iphicles Suefuji sp. nov. is smaller in size and resembles P. hercules and can only be separated from the latter by its wing size, distribution, and the male genitalia. Now, Sulawesi is inhabited by all the five species of the genus, of which three are endemic.
