Abstract
Julus bengeli sp. nov. is described and illustrated from the Russian Altais, southwestern Siberia, Asian Russia. The new species shows a strong sexual dimorphism in the gnathochilarium in males, viz. a distinct projection located parabasally on the gnathochilarial stipes, apically carrying a circular bundle of 15–17 elongated papillae/trichomes. Julus bengeli sp. nov. seems to be especially close to J. ghilarovi Gulička, 1963, but differs from it by the presence of a conical apical outgrowth of the telopodite 1 of leg pair 1, and a large anterior coxal outgrowths of leg pair 2 thickened in the central part. The distributions of all Julus species of the Russian Altais are mapped, and a key to species of the genus in the study area is given.
