Collembola chaetotaxy pseudopores species identification key taxonomy

Abstract

The genus Lepidocyrtus, the third largest within the family Entomobryidae globally, comprises 45 European species distributed across five species groups. The Lepidocyrtus curvicollis species group contains the largest size species and currently includes seven species that are primarily differentiated by chaetotaxic and pigmentation characters. In the present study, a new species from this group is described, using the number, position, and shape of pseudopores on the head, body, and appendages as additional diagnostic characters. A dichotomous key to the currently described species of the group is also included.
