Orthoptera distribution Eufalconius

Abstract

A recent orthopteran collection was conducted in Sekayu, Terengganu, Peninsular Malaysia. We describe a new species of Eufalconius Günther, 1938: Eufalconius sekayu Muhammad, Azizan, Abdullah & Tan, sp. nov. This new species can be easily distinguished from the monotypical species of the genus, E. pendleburyi Günther, 1938, by the slender pronotum (smaller pronotal and prozonal width); its lateral lobe curves outwards, forming an acute apex; the hindwings visible from lateral view and reaching or slightly surpassing the apex of its pronotum; and the 12th antennal segment with its basal half white. This represents the second species from the genus, and the first record of the genus outside the Titiwangsa Mountain range, where E. pendleburyi was mostly collected. We also record Potua coronata Bolívar, 1887, Systolederus cinereus Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893, Xistrella dohrni dohrni Günther, 1939, Coptotettix nigrifemurus Deng & Jiang, 2017, Lamellitettigodes contractus (Bolívar, 1887), Lamellitettigodes sagittatus (Bolívar, 1887), Criotettix bispinosus (Dalman, 1818), Eucriotettix simulans Tan & Storozhenko, 2017, and Loxilobus insidiosus (Bolívar, 1887) in Terengganu for the first time. We also present color variations of Coptotettix nigrifemurus Deng & Jiang, 2017, Criotettix bispinosus (Dalman, 1818), and Systolederus cinereus Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893.
