A new genus of flat mites (Acariformes: Tenuipalpidae), with the description of three new species from Brazil

Abstract

A new genus, Ueckermannopalpus Castro, Seeman & Beard gen. nov., is proposed to include five species: three new species, Ueckermannopalpus mineirus Castro, Ochoa & Beard sp. nov., U. cerradoensis Castro, Ochoa & Beard sp. nov., and U. unguibus Tassi, Castro & Machado sp. nov. from Brazil; and two species moved from the genus Amblypalpus Mitrofanov & Strunkova, 1978, Ueckermannopalpus thymus (Farzan, Asadi & Ueckermann, 2013) comb. nov., and U. iraniensis (Farzan, Asadi & Ueckermann, 2013) comb. nov., both from Iran. Taking into account the removal of the two latter species, a new diagnosis is provided for the genus Amblypalpus, which now comprises three species: Amblypalpus narsikulovi Mitrofanov & Strunkova, 1978, A. masakii (Ehara & Ueckermann, 2003) and A. thomissus (Meyer, 1979).
