Abstract
The type specimens of the pollen wasps deposited in the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Zoological Museum of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University are revised. Primary types of 30 taxa are illustrated, 12 of them with either a paratype or a paralectotype of the opposite sex. Lectotypes are designated for the following 16 nominal taxa: Celonites crenulatus Morawitz, 1888, C. foveolatus Kostylev, 1935, C. hystrix Kostylev, 1940, C. modestus Kostylev, 1935, C. modestus biinterruptus Kostylev, 1940, Saryara octoannulata Kuznetzov, 1923, Celonites octoannulatus hissaricus Kostylev, 1940, C. semenovi Kostylev, 1935, C. tristiculus karatauicus Kostylev, 1935, C. tudesculptus Kostylev, 1935, Jugurtia eurycara Kostylev, 1935, J. irana Kostylev, 1935, J. jemenensis Kostylev, 1935, J. zarudnyi Kostylev, 1935, J. chlorotica Morawitz, 1888, and Quartinia uzbeka Kostylev, 1935. Five new synonymies are proposed: Celonites cyprius de Saussure, 1854 = C. cyprius smirnensis Richards, 1962, syn. nov.; C. laetus Panfilov, 1968 = C. phlomis Gusenleitner, 1973, syn. nov.; C. octoannulatus (Kuznetzov, 1923) = C. octoannulatus hissaricus Kostylev, 1940, syn. nov.; C. semenovi Kostylev, 1935 = C. pictus rufiventris Gusenleitner, 1992, syn. nov.; C. tristiculus Kostylev, 1935 = C. tristiculus karatauicus Kostylev, 1935, syn. nov. Celonites modestus biinterruptus Kostylev, 1940 and Ceramius fonscolombei oraniensis Lepeletier, 1841 are raised to full species (Celonites biinterruptus Kostylev, 1940, stat. nov.; Ceramius oraniensis Lepeletier, 1841, stat. resurr.). A checklist of all currently valid species of the subfamilies Gayellinae and Masarinae s. str. contained in the two studied collections is provided (77 species, two of which are of a doubtful taxonomic independence and eight are undescribed).
