Abstract

A small number of chitons collected from three Emperor Seamounts was studied. Three species were identified. Of these, one species, Leptochiton milwaukensis n. sp., is new. The new species is distinguished by a unique sculpture of the central area of the intermediate valves, with narrowed pores of micraesthetes on the tegmentum granules and the shape of central teeth of the radula. For the first time three specimens of Belknapchiton belknapi were collected from the bathyal zone near the biogeographic border between the boreal and the tropical realms.
