A new species of Lobellina (Collembola: Neanuridae) from China

Collembola Lobellina nanjingensis sp. nov. taxonomy chaetotaxy checklist of species springtails

Abstract

The genus Lobellina is reported from China for the first time by a new species, Lobellina nanjingensis, described here. The species is assigned Lobellina because most, but not all, characters comply with the diagnosis of the genus given by Deharveng and Weiner (1984). It is suggested that the generic diagnosis needs to be slightly modified to take account of the characters of the new species. Lobellina nanjingensis sp. nov. differs from all known members of the genus in the specific character of 5+5 setae on ventral tube. It is similar to the Korean species L. paraminuta Deharveng and Weiner, 1984 in the structure of mandible and maxilla, the presence of cephalic seta O, the number of setae on tubercle Di of Abd. V and the number of dorsal tubercles on Abd. V. However, it is easily distinguished from the latter species by the body colour, the number of ventral tube setae, the structure of macrosetae, the type of cephalic seta O and the number of ocular setae.
