Catalogue of family Zerconidae (Acari: Mesostigmata) with a key to genera

Acari taxonomy soil mites zerconids determination key

Abstract

We provide a catalogue of the world species of Zerconidae, which includes 489 valid recent species (including synonyms) with corresponding taxonomic information and references. An illustrated key (based on adult females) to the 45 genera included in the catalogue along with revised generic diagnoses are provided. The following new synonymy is proposed: Betaechinozercon Sikora, 2014 is a junior synonym of Prozercon (Plumatozercon) Urhan & Ayyıldız, 1996. We propose Prozercon americanus (Błaszak, 1982) comb. nov., Zercon maxsellnicki Jandík & Fenďa nom. nov., replacement name for Zercon similis Sellnick, 1958, junior homonym of Zercon similis Mihelčič, 1958. Some species are insufficiently known and could not be reliably identified; these are listed as species incertae sedis.
