Annotated catalogue of Sphecidae sensu lato wasps (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Apoidea) of Tunisia

Abstract

Based on available publications related to Sphecidae sensu lato of Tunisia and identified materials from that country in the first author’s and Christian Schmid-Egger’s personal collections, a catalogue of Tunisian species is presented for the first time. It is composed of 343 species and subspecies belonging to nine families and 66 genera. The Crabronidae family is the most diverse with 146 taxa belonging to 23 genera followed by the Sphecidae with 53 species and subspecies and 10 genera. One genus Didineis Wesmael, 1852 and seven species: Didineis barbieri (de Beaumont, 1968), Harpactus formosus (Jurine, 1807), Belomicrus rasmonti Schmid-Egger, 2021, Miscophus eatoni Saunders, 1903, Passaloecus pictus Ribaut, 1952, Pemphredon austriaca (Kohl 1888) and Psenulus pallipes (Panzer, 1798) are first recorded from Tunisia. New provincial records are reported for several taxa. Synonyms of each species and provinces where it was found in Tunisia are provided.
