Carabidae Lebiini ground-beetles new species taxonomy distribution

Abstract

The genus Trichocoptodera Louwerens, 1958 is downgraded to a subgenus of the genus Coptodera. This taxonomic change created a secondary homonym that has forced us to create the new name C. (T.) louwerensi as a replacement name for Trichocoptodera maculata Louwerens, 1958 nec C. (Coptoderina) maculata Dupuis, 1912. Four new species are described from the Philippines: C. (T.) sciakyi sp. nov. (Mindanao), C. (T.) punctata sp. nov. (Mindanao), C. (T.) distinguenda sp. nov. (Luzon, Mindanao) and C. (T.) extrema sp. nov. (Luzon). The following new synonymy and combination are established: C. (T.) baumi Jedlička, 1955 = C. (Coptoderina) banjaranensis Kirschenhofer, 2012 syn. nov.; C. (T.) meinkeana (Jedlička, 1965) comb. nov. = Lebia meinkeana Jedlička, 1965; C. (T.) baumi Jedlička, 1955 is placed into the subgenus Trichocoptodera. The species C. (T.) baumi is recorded for the first time in Brunei, Indonesia (Bali), the Philippines (Mindanao), and Vietnam. An overview of the morphological characteristics and diagnostic features of the subgenus Trichocoptodera is provided. An identification key and images of `the habitus and aedeagus are given.
