Abstract

A new species of darkling beetle, Pilobalia baldwini sp. nov. (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini) is described and illustrated on the basis of specimens collected in Angaraes, Huancavelica, Huancayo and Tayacaja provinces (Huancavelica and Junin, Peru). Morphological comparisons are made with other Pilobalia species bearing pronotum devoid of velvety setae and with Pilobalia gracilipes Kulzer, 1954, a similar species recorded in the geographical vicinity. A description, diagnosis, illustrations and distribution map are provided for the new species.
