Abstract

A new Assara species (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), A. grazalemensis Gaona, Garre & Ortiz sp. nov., is described from the Spanish fir forest of Cádiz in the Iberian Peninsula. Adult specimens and male and female genitalia are illustrated, and DNA barcode data are used to assess genetic divergence from closely related species Assara conicolella (Constant, 1884), A. terebrella (Zincken, 1818), Metallostichodes nigrocyanella (Constant, 1865) and Euzophera pinguis (Haworth, 1811) from the public BOLD database.
