Abstract
A new species of gall wasp, Diplolepis ningdaensis sp. nov. (Cynipoidea: Diplolepididae: Diplolepidinae), is described from Zhejiang Province, China. The new species induces subspherical galls bearing short spines, occurring primarily on the lower (abaxial) surface of the leaflets, with a few found on the upper (adaxial) surface or on the rachis, and occasionally on the pedicels of Rosa multiflora Thunb. Phylogenetic relationships between the new species and other Diplolepis species were inferred based on partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. An updated taxonomic key to the East Asian species of Diplolepis is provided to facilitate identification.
