Coleoptera new species revised taxonomy Sambirano western and northern Madagascar

Abstract

Based on a revision of recently collected specimens, the original concept of Pogonostoma (Microstenocera) globulithorax Jeannel, 1946 is presented in order to rectify its partly confused concept published in the monograph of the genus Pogonostoma Klug, 1835 by Moravec (2007). This hitherto little-known species is compared to externally similar P. (M.) fleutiauxi W. Horn, 1905, and redescriptions of these two taxa are given. As a result of the presented revision of the partly confused taxa, P. (M.) paraglobulithorax sp. nov. is described here as new to science. Habitus and diagnostic characters of the types and other specimens of the three species are illustrated in colour photographs reflecting their variability and with references to previous illustrations in the monograph. A revised key to the P. (M.) fleutiauxi species-group is presented in order to supplement the key in the monograph by Moravec (2007) and the further modified key in Moravec & Trýzna (2022). Maps of distributions of the three species in western and northern Madagascar are also presented.
