Redescription of Cubanomysis manuelortizi Hendrickx & Hernández-Payán, 2023 (Crustacea, Mysida, Mysidae) based on a new record from Southeast Gulf of California, Mexico

Abstract

Additional, abundant material of a recently described species of Mysida, Cubanomysis manuelortizi, previously known from a few individuals from the type locality in the SW Gulf of California and now collected in the SE Gulf of California, Mexico, is used to complete its description, particularly the morphology of thoracopods of both sexes. The new material matches the original description provided for this species, with very few, small variations. Variation of setal armature of telson posterior margin and uropodal endopod is provided based on the observation of 20 males, 20 females, and 20 ovigerous females of different size and the additional morphological data now available are compared with the two other species of the genus Cubanomysis. Additional information is provided regarding the size of the species, its coloration, habitat and reproductive aspects.
