Dr Hutchings is an expert on the systematics and phylogeny  of the Terebellida. She is also interested in polychaetes in general and their ecology. She was awarded the Australian Marine Science Association Jubilee medal for  2010, for excellence in marine research in Australia. Pat is the chair of the organising  committee for the 11^th International Polychaete conference which will be held at the Australian Museum in August 2013 (http://www.ipc2013.com.au).
