Leptoderoides Croissandeau removed from synonymy with Stenichnus Thomson and elevated to genus rank (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae)

Abstract

Leptoderoides Croissandeau is removed from synonymy with Cyrtoscydmus Motschulsky (= Stenichnus s. str.) and elevated to genus rank. Lectotype for Scydmaenus leptoderus Reitter, the type species of Leptoderoides, is designated. Morphological structures of Leptoderoides are illustrated and discussed, and an updated identification key to the Eurasian Glandulariini genera is given. The identity of Leptoderoides leptoderus comb. n. is discussed and it is concluded that the previous redescription by Franz was most likely based on misidentified material. Leptoderoides is distributed in the eastern and northeastern part of the Mediterranean Basin, and besides its type species, it is represented by many yet undescribed species.
