Abstract

A total of eight species of the genus Humidophila (Bacillariophyceae) are reported from karst regions of Guizhou Province, China. Of the eight species reported, only two have been previously described. For all species we document valve morphology with light and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, for the six new species, we compare and contrast their morphology with similar taxa. The karst region of China, with its many subaerial habitats, appears to harbor a diatom flora that may be present in similar habitats in Asia.
